This adorable hat was made with soft breathable yarn, for lots of springtime and summer fun! The flower is sewn into the hat with a large decorative silver button. Click on the image below for sizing + details, or click here to view my etsy shop.

Some of my sexier “wearable paintings” will be featured in a NC fashion show in April. See banner for details. Click here to view the Facebook page for the event. And click here to view more of my artwork.

An exciting new way to display artwork! My “wearable paintings” so far have been done as necklaces, corset-like bodices, a few dresses, and this garter belt. I really like the garter belt idea so I think I’ll make more, with different types of designs. I am very pleased with the recent fashion photo shoot I did with Black Horse Studio Photography at Gateway Gallery in Winston Salem. The models, Asrai and Heather, were both amazing! Not to mention Christine Geiger, who did the AWESOME hair + makeup for the shoot. I’d been wanting to do something like this for a while, with my “wearable paintings” in a gallery space, and the models holding up picture frames like they are artwork on display. Here are just 2 of my favorites from the shoot:

This was a pretty fun shoot. I’d never worked with a pregnant model before, and it gave me lots of ideas. I wanted to put her in one of the “wearable paintings” but all of them were dramatically not the right size. So we did a shoot with the super long sleeves and lots of bright colors. When I eventually get pregnant, I will definitely have some fun times doing art and fashion photography!

It is amazing how much you can do with photo manipulation, and how much we take for granted when we look at faces/bodies in magazines and don’t realize that stars have just as many stretchmarks and wrinkles as us. This is a before and after photo of my face that I manipulated in Photoshop (I smoothed out some marks on my face, took out the bags under my eyes, took out the shine on my forehead and nose, made my skin look milkier, fixed my eye makeup, made my hair longer, and totally changed the colors of everything).

But we can do so much more with photo manipulation! From little things like whitening teeth, and removing acne or wrinkles, to larger things like increasing cleavage, decreasing waists, and even swapping heads and bodies from other pictures to create the “perfect shot”.

As an artist who is fascinated by these things and loves manipulating photos, I have mixed feelings. I mean, there is definitely a negative effect when the youth turns to magazines to know what beauty is, when the women on those pages are all manipulated to the extent of not even being human anymore! But it seems like people are becoming more aware of these things in general, so perhaps future generations of young girls will all just KNOW magazine bodies are total fantasy, and not aspire to become those unrealistic ideals.

I am going on a road trip with my husband and step-kid, to see many exciting places and people! I plan on bringing some of my smaller new outfits (maybe even some of the “wearable paintings”), and having unscheduled photo shoots with random people I meet along the way. I will be in the following places on the following dates. Maybe we’ll be in the same place at the same time and can make some awesomeness together!
